I DO NOT FEEL REMORSE FOR MY SINS.  WILL I BE SAVED ?

Sometimes I worry that I may not be saved.  I have tried but have never felt remorse for my sins.  I ask God for a contrite heart, but in vain.  I implore you, minister of God, pray for me and for my conversion.

You are sorry that you are not sorry...  Isn’t this proof that you do feel remorse for your sins?

In your faith, you wish to please God, which includes contrition for your sins.  You even pray to God about this matter.  Your remorse is evident even though it is implied.

You reproach yourself.  Because you regret your sins!

Don’t associate the sincere remorse you feel for your sins with some emotion of repentance.  Such emotion can accompany your remorse, but it is not necessary, especially in periods of spiritual dryness.

Repentance for your sins can also be accompanied - due to our poor human frailty - by an attraction to do further wrong.

True regret of one’s sins develops through faith and the love of God.  Such faith and love of God give us strength to avoid evil and dangerous situations, and to handle more or less voluntary temptations.

Be at peace!  Let your love grow.  In loving Jesus, you will increasingly regret in your heart anything that would distance you from that love, and that is what sin is.

Above all, you will be making progress, with your eyes fixed on him.  Don’t stop!
