WILL THE POPE BE THE LAST POPE ?

I have read many books that say that this latest Pope is really the last Pope.  What do you think?

            There are many prophecies on the Popes, for example those that have been falsely attributed to Saint Malachy.  Are they always true?  I doubt it.

            In order to predict that this Pope will be the last Pope, or that there will only be two or three more after him, we have to be able to predict the end of the world, the date of the end of time.  Unfortunately we don’t know this.  My answer may disappoint those who believe the ‘doomsday’ prophets; it is the answer upheld by the teachings of the Church and the Pope.

            In the 19th century, it was said that Pope Pius IX would be the last Pope; it has been said for others as well.  There is indeed nothing new under the sun.

            John Paul II confirmed that we do not know the exact moment when the history of humanity will be over.  The reality, he says, is that the end has already begun.  Christ did not reveal when it would be over.  Why then should we seek to know?  Isn’t it better to remain always ready and live our Christian lives to the fullest while we wait?  We should prepare for our own personal end, be ready for our own death.

            Certainly we can wonder about the succession of the popes.  Who will be the last?  We don’t know.
